Professional Learning 2023 TOD
When coming back to work after a long and exciting holiday it can sometimes feel a little daunting. Admin, meetings, planning and so on. Today we came together and reconnected by sharing our experiences and views in a fun and inclusive manner. We met new staff and grounded ourselves back into the school.
We started our day by sharing our holiday memories/highlights, this was definitely a great way to meet the two new staff members in a lowkey way. The activity gave us all a chance to catchup, laugh and share stories. My favourite activity was the line activity, this involved us all thinking about a key moment in our school experience that had an impact on us. For me, a key time in my learning journey was primary school, when learning was exciting and I felt 100% comfortable. No pressure, no expectations and days full of play. Primary school was a time when there was no reason to ever worry about tests, assessments and exams. Today this reflection reminded me of the importance of making learning a fun journey for the students, a time to ask questions and explore their own interests.
Meeting with the English Department is never a task or chore, instead always a chance to share ideas and basically spend time with people who I share a vision with. We talked about the rich history within our school and the resources readily available to us. I am super excited about 2023 and am looking forward to a fun and productive year.
A few photos from my Christmas holiday - England, Iceland and the USA.

Imagining that proposal, backgrounded by aurora borealis, as shared by your new friend Hailee (I think that's how you spell her name) was a memorable, indeed, a delightful for me Hayley!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that you enjoyed that learning can be fun - ergo, impactful and engaging. I, too found the personal stories from schooling to be both heart warming in some cases and saddening in others. What struck me was the number of those who shared negative experiences, grew determined to succeed and determined not to be 'that' teacher. Isn't it intriguing where people draw inspiration from. I know you facilitate a proactive faculty and urge all your akonga to be the best they can be, so will be interested at what your growth goals will be this year. Haere tonu wahine pukumahi!
I really enjoyed connecting with you on our professional development day last week, Hayley. I agree the group work was fabulous. The way it was facilitated everyone felt safe to share and it was fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great teaching strategy that we could revisit time and again throughout the year with our students ;)
